Judy Hogan - Classes Fall 2016

Judy Hogan teaches in the communities of the Greater Triangle area.  Creative Writing classes are offered now at Hoganvillaea Farm in Moncure.  They are open to writers interested in improving their writing and working with other creative writing students. Judy's tried and true method involves reading the work of great authors and helping students achieve their own voice in writing. Students may share their own work in class and with Judy.

Class offerings for Winter 2017:

           “Poetry Writing by Skype” with Judy Hogan.  Mondays, Jan. 9--Mar. 13, 2017.  7-9 PM.  Ten Weeks. Judy’s home in Moncure. $150, or $160 if materials are mailed. Snow day Mar. 20.

    Poets at every stage of their writing career are welcome.  Selected poems from Wendell Berry and H.D. (Hilda Doolittle), both excellent contemporary poets, help in writing the best contemporary verse. Writing assignments follow reading assignments.
      We will discuss the poems' meanings as well as techniques used, and writers may read to the class as well as turn in work to Hogan.  Texts:  Wendell Berry: New Collected Poems, 2012. and H.D. Selected Poems, edited by Louis L. Martz.1988.
    Hogan is the author of six books of poetry, the most recent poetry book being This River: An Epic Love Poem (2014).  She has taught creative writing for forty-four years.

"Write Your Life Story" (Journal, Memoir, Autobiography or Biography) with Judy Hogan at Hoganvillaea Farm in Moncure. Jan. 12-Mar 16, 2017.   Thursdays, 1-3 P.M.  Cost $150.  Snow day, Mar. 23. We will be reading Laurie King'sThe Beekeeper's Apprenctice. 1994   Students may work on any prose form: autobiography, biography, memoir, fiction, journal, Students will feel more at ease with writing their stories and move toward their own writing and personal goals.  Students may share with the class and/or turn in weekly assignments for instructor comment.  Judy Hogan has been teaching Creative Writing for 44 years.  She finds that reading good models helps students improve their writing faster than any other way.
